Romeo D. Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Crime volume in Central Visayas has reduced by 49 percent in a week at 345 cases from February 19 to 25 this year.

Police Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson at the Police Regional Office-7, said this is a big decrease from 677 cases in the same period last year.

In focus crimes including murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping, 49 cases were recorded compared to 65 cases last year.

This is the result of the police's relentless campaign against all types of criminality.

"For example for the same period more or less 700 crime suspects were arrested sa illegal drugs we have 183 suspects were arrested for that period then naa sad tay daghang nadakpan diri sa wanted person, I think 278 ang na-accomplish nato gambling," said Pelare.

These relentless operations were done according to the intelligence based approach which resulted in the reduction of crime.

“Having seen this ang amoa nalang siguro diri sa PRO-7 is to continuously conduct police operations against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, wanted persons para atong ma-maintain ang peace and order situation sa atong area," Pelare said. — GMR (FREEMAN)
