300 CH workers fail to make it to final cut

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  At least 300 Cebu City Hall workers, mostly job order, failed to make it to the final cut for reemployment following an extensive reevaluation process conducted by Mayor Michael Rama himself.

They were part of the original 2,000 workers whose contracts were recommended for termination. Most of them were reconsidered, at least until December, but will have to hurdle a continuing evaluation to keep their jobs next year.

“About 300 kabuok gyud ang dili ma re-hire…That’s the news…The good news, libo-libo kabuok, ang ma-rehire,“ Rama said during yesterday’s flag ceremony at the City Hall grounds.

Rama said that those who have been re-hired include workers of the city government for over a decade now, licensed professionals, CESET workers, and all persons with disabilities.

“Eleven years or more basta dili lang kawatan, ang kawat nako mortal sin gyud na para nako…Apil mo dayon sa renew…licensed professionals basta dili lang kawatan, CESET workers who have been working day and night…bisan kita nangatog, sila nangmata na…and tanang PWDs labi nag dili kawatan,” Rama said.

All workers who appealed for reconsideration were made to fill up documents for job placement and matching to give them employment opportunity outside of the city hall.

Those who were given the chance to keep their jobs will still continue to face periodic evaluation.

“Evaluation, sige gihapon na…Pero appointment will have to be issued aron ang serbisyo dili maputol ug katong apil sa dili apil sa 300, makadawat gyud nag benefits sama sa bonus..and you will enjoy Christmas,” Rama said.

The mayor said he could not do anything anymore for the 300 workers who did not make it to the final cut. But he promised that other interventions will be done to help them.

“Kung naapil mo sa 300, ayaw gihapon mo kaguol kay di man ko mamiya…kay servant man ko nga leader...shepherd ko nga leader, steward ko nga leader…ug overseer ko nga leader, custodian ko na leader, partner ko…Naay mga program, DMDP, hala eskwela sa didto,” Rama said. — FPL (FREEMAN)
