Cordova seas high in coliform, ‘not fit’ for swimming

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan announced that the town’s municipal waters are no longer fit for swimming amid a high level of coliform.

Suan said that this is based on the laboratory test conducted by the Environmental Management Bureau-7, from water samples taken from July 11 to 20, 2022.

Another set of samples was also taken on August 10, 2022.

“Ang resulta sa EMB sa ilang pakisusi wala kapasar ang atong dagat; dili na kini mahimong kaligoan," Suan said

It was learned that EMB-7 collected seawater samples in the different areas in the town, especially those located at the fixed floating restaurants.

Cindylyn Pepito, EMB-7 chief of the Environmental Education and Information Unit, said that updated results will be released today.

The officials of the municipality of Cordova have arranged a meeting with various stakeholders and Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia today. Other concerned government agencies to be represented in the meeting are Department of Tourism, Department of Health, Philippine National Police, Maritime Industry Authority, and Philippine Coast Guard.

Pepito said that the event will be held at the Cordova Gym in Barangay Poblacion at 2 p.m. and final report with all laboratory results will also be released today. – Romeo T. Limpangog, JMD (FREEMAN)
