Dominic I. Dilao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — At least five houses were affected and one reportedly injured after another fire hit a residential area Sunday morning at Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Quiot, Cebu City.

This time, the fire affected an area of 250 square meters and left an estimated damage to properties worth P375,000.

The first alarm was received at 4:46 a.m. It was raised to first alarm at 4:51 a.m. and was controlled at 5:08. The fire was officially extinguished at 5:12 a.m.

The responding team included 12 engines, an ambulance and fire volunteer brigades.

At least five houses were damage by the fire--three were partially burned and two were totally burned—which were mostly made of light materials.

The fire incident left no records of fatality, however, one fire volunteer was reportedly injured.

According to the Cebu City Fire Office (CCFO), a fire volunteer from Basak, San Nicolas identified as Junrey Jacalan, 24 years old, suffered from a fractured right leg after falling during the firefighting operation.

Based on the initial report of CCFO, the fire started at the house owned by Nestor Cometa.

Although they have yet to determine the cause, CCFO investigator, Fire Officer 3 Emerson Arceo, said they are eyeing electrical problem as possible cause.

"Mag amping lang gyud ta kanunay... niya atong kuryente, mosunod ta sa standard nga mga gamit. Mangyawat lagi ta permi para makabarato... so, mao na ang gamiton kay standard gyud," Arceo said.

As they were responding to the fire incident, Arceo shared it was a challenge for them since it is away from the access road.

"Ang lugar man gud is medyo sikit-sikit bitaw... layo gyud sa access road," Arceo said

"If naay sunog, tawag dayun para marespondihan dayun, dili kay mag-video pa," he added.

To recall, a fire razed a residential area at the same sitio in Brgy. Quiot on July 7 this year, in which 50 houses were affected and pegged to P1,875,000 of estimated damage. — Jonah Marie B. Chu, CNU Intern, GMR (FREEMAN)
