Korean fugitive nabbed in Cebu City

CEBU, Philippines — A Korean fugitive who went into hiding in Cebu City since 2018 was arrested by the police by virtue of a warrant of arrest for circulating pornography video in his country.

Police Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-7, identified the accused as Younggo Jung, 38, who is residing at a condominium in Talamban, Cebu City.

The warrant of arrest was served on November 1, 2021 at around 1:30 p.m. in Jung’s condominium unit.

According to Dalogdog, the operation stemmed from a request from the Bureau of Immigration for police assistance to locate and arrest Jung who was sentenced for six months imprisonment on November 8, 2018.

The accused has a standing warrant of arrest for violation of the Promotion of Information Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, also known as Circulation of Pornography, Abetting, etc. of the Criminal Code of Republic of Korea.

“Di gyud siya ang principal na suspect ani pero mahulog ni siya nga accomplice, tumulong siya doon sa mismong principal suspect,” said Dalogdog.

He added that Seong Ki Joo, Senior Consul of the Korean Embassy, sent a letter to Commissioner Jaime Morente of the Bureau of Immigration dated January 4,2019 informing that Jung was an accomplice of a certain Lee Suhwan, another Korean national who uploaded 7,401 pornographic videos on an online website.

The crime was committed from January to March of the year 2017.

“Upon the receipt of the letter of the Bureau of Immigration from the Embassy, they issued a warrant of deportation against the suspect, ang suspect nagtago sya diri sa Cebu since 2018 pa hangtud karon,” said Dalogdog.

Through coordination with the Republic of Korea via the Interpol, the accused was arrested by the elements of CIDG-7 at the said area where he was also living.

“Allegedly mga (videos) of minors, ang minors sa Korea are 19 pababa, so yun yung mga ina-upload nila na pornographic videos doon sa website,” said Dalogdog. — GMR (FREEMAN)
