Cebu grads in Top 10 of nursing board exam

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Four graduates from two schools in Cebu landed in the Top 10 of the recent licensure examination for nurses, the result of which was released yesterday, December 6, 2019.

Artemis Maries Cinco of Velez College and Jasmin Claire Sarmiento Tamang of Cebu Normal University landed in fourth place with a rating of 88.20 percent.

Jorel Franco Antone Tangpuz of CNU placed fifth with a rating of 88 percent while Sarah Jane Uy Enot also of Velez College placed 10th with a rating of 87 percent.

Tangpuz shared with The Freeman that he also engaged “self-directed” study and did not rely on what was discussed at the review center. To make full use of his time, he also decided to cut himself off from social media.

“I believe that in order to better learn hard things in the shortest amount of time, we must focus intensely with the least amount of distraction, which, for me, included curbing off social media interruption, loud environments, talkativeness, and even distracting study groups. I realized that I had been wasting so much time scrolling my phone that it took not only my time but also my capacity to focus.” Tangpuz said.

“So, I deleted unnecessary apps and refused to open them until after the board exams were over. I thought that active learning methods would be more effective than simply reading through notes and slides and highlighting whatever seemed important,” he added.

He advised those who are yet to take the board exam to never be afraid to ask questions.

In a Facebook post, Tamang expressed her gratitude to her family and the CNU administration who she said guided her throughout her journey.

Enot also took her appreciation to social media.

“To my parents, you two are my real heroes. You've supported me all the way. Your sacrifices are all worth it. This success is also your success,” her Facebook post reads.

Shaina Kei Cruiz Watanabe of Davao Doctors College, Inc. took the top spot with a passing rate of 89.60 percent.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) said only 7,627 of the 13,816 who took the exam passed. JMO (FREEMAN)
