Landslide victory Cortes topples Luigi in Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines — Jonas Cortes is back at the Mandaue City Hall with a huge landslide victory over his political opponent in yesterday’s elections.

Cortes, incumbent Cebu Sixth District representative, got 201,641 votes against his rival, incumbent Mayor Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing, who got 58,842 votes.

Based on the city canvass report, Mandaue City has 244 total clustered precincts, with 241 clustered precincts reported, as of 11:30 p.m. last night.

The city has 226,091 total registered voters, and 174,192 actually voted, or a 77 percent voters’ turnout.

Cortes’s runningmate, Glenn Bercede, got 89,846 votes against reelectionist Vice Mayor Carlo Pontico Fortuna with 67, 586 votes.

Cortes’s entire slate for councilor also won.  The winning councillors include Nerrisa Soon-Ruiz - 98,424; Malcolm Sanchez - 91,164; Jimmy Lumapas - 89,320; Cynthia Remedio - 80,835; Maline Cortes-Zafra - 80,349; Ting Sol Cabahug - 77,106; Jun Del Mar - 75,011; Jun Arcilla - 72,487; Joel Seno - 71,867; and Icalina Ouano-Andong - 66,400.

Former Mandaue City Councilor Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano Dizon is leading in the congressional race, as of 11:30 p.m. last night.

She garnered 119,177 over her closest rival, Atty. Baldomero Estenzo, who got 27,068 votes.

The figure, however, is only in Mandaue City. The votes from Cordova and Consolacion towns are not yet included.

For the sixth district board member, incumbent board member Jonjie Ouano as well as businessman Glenn Soco won in Mandaue.

Their votes from the town of Cordova and Consolacion are not yet included though.

Meanwhile, Cordova incumbent mayor got a fresh mandate from her constituents when the Commission on Elections proclaimed her as the winner last night. — GAN (FREEMAN)
