Boy, 15, killed in accident

CEBU, Philippines — A taxi driver surrendered to the police after killing a 15-year-old boy during an accident Sunday morning in Daanbantayan town.

Abundio Garbo, resident of Barangay Calape, Daanbantayan, was transporting his relatives to attend a baptism when he ran over Johnrex Gallardo in Sitio Bandilaan, Barangay Bagay.

Daanbantayan police chief Senior Inspector Adrian Nalua said the suspect initially escaped leaving the victim on the road. Concerned bystanders rushed the victim to the hospital but did not make it alive.

After few hours in hiding, Garbo decided to surrender to the police station at 4:15 p.m. yesterday. According to Nalua, the driver claimed that he panicked upon seeing the relatives of the victim coming to him.

Garbo told the police that he decided to run away instead of bringing the victim to the hospital for fear of his life.

"Nagsisisi siya sa nagawa niya iyak siya ng iyak dito sa station, pero ganun pa man we have to file a case," Nalua said.

Nalua said they have already prepared a criminal complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against Garbo. (FREEMAN)
