Family of Dumanjug chief hailed outstanding model

CEBU, Philippines — The family of Dumanjug police chief, Senior Inspector Gilfred Baroman, was awarded as this year's Cebu Provincial Police Office Most Outstanding Model PNP Family.

Baroman got a total of 89 points according to Dr. Danny Bornales, founder and chairman of the Battle Against Drugs. He is also the PNP Chaplain Service director and chairman of the screening committee.

"Ang iya pagka-family-oriented sa pagkinabuhi mao'y nangibabaw og atong nakita during sa deliberation. Usa usab siya ka disciplinarian isip usa ka leader sa iyang station ug aduna pud siya'y strong commitment in terms sa religious activities," said Bornales.

CPPO spokesman Superintendent Virgilio Bayon-on said they had a hard time choosing among the nominees since they are all deserving and equipped with the qualities required for the model family.

The annual search for model families is an advocacy of the National Police Commission supported by other agencies including the PNP and the Department of Interior of the Interior and Local Government which are also part of the committee.

Bornales said that the objective of the search is to motivate police officers to do good not only in their job but to contribute and participate in their community, including religious health activities.

"Motivating factor nga mohimo sila og maayo and also a challenge sa other police. Gina-boost sad ani ang morale sa atong kapulisan kay atong mapakita nga daghan pa ang ang atong men in uniform nga mga tarong og nagbuhat sa ilang serbisyo," Bornales added.

Among the criteria they look for in an outstanding model family are the policeman's community services, commitment, dedication and service to the PNP organization, family orientation, religious health, and relation to the community.

The family of Senior Police Officer 1 Mary Joy Ylanan of Bogo City Police Station bagged the first runner-up award while the family of Senior Police Officer 1 Shindey Felicitas  Taboco of Talisay City Police Station was second runner-up.

Baroman and the two runner-ups received P10,000, P6,000 and P4,000 cash, respectively from Bornales and a plaque of recognition from CPPO.

Baroman said he did not expect the win since this was his first time to join the search.

"Wa ko mag-expect nga modaog. Wa gani ko magtuo nga moagi man diay ni og makuti nga deliberation, interview ilabi na ang pag-secure og mga documents," he said.

He added he will take this award as a challenge to do even better in his craft and to serve the community as a police officer as he also encouraged his fellow policemen to do good in their job and in serving the community.

Baroman's wife is also a police officer and is assigned in Pinamungajan.

In his speech during the awarding, CPPO Director Senior Superintendent Manuel Abrugena encouraged all his personnel to replicate and emulate the good acts of the model families.

Baroman will be the representative of CPPO for the Regional PNP model family search. (FREEMAN)
