Seized bikes, cars to be auctioned off

CEBU, Philippines - At least 268 units of motorcycles and nine four-wheeled vehicles, which were impounded by Cebu City Transportation Office for two years, would be auctioned in favor of the city government.

The city’s General Services Office, though, would examine first to determine if there are units that can be repaired and utilized by the city.

City Administrator Lucelle Mercado forwarded the list of impounded vehicles submitted by CCTO Operations Chief Jonathan Tumulak to the city’s Technical Working Group for its evaluation and appraisal after the GSO would submit its report.

The city government would then appraise the value of the vehicles, which were impounded at the South Road Properties, that can no longer be used and for the public for auction.  CCTO has already notified the owners of the vehicles about the possible auction through a newspaper advertisement urging them to redeem their vehicles in one month’s time.

Tumulak said the 268 impounded motor vehicles do not include those impounded by the Land Transportation Office. He marked most in his list as “skeleton”, which means they are no longer in good condition.

He said the owners failed to claim the units after penalties and impounding fees were not settled.

CCTO collects P100 for motorcycles, P300 for cars, and P500 for sports utility vehicles as daily impounding fee.

“Naa say ubang owners nga dunay questionable documents maong dili ma-claim ang sakyanan pareho anang wala naka-pangalan sa ilaha ang mga sakyanan, so dili gyod nato i-release,” Tumulak said.

He said owners have six months to settle their fines and submit appropriate documents before the city would start the process of owning their vehicles.

Tumulak said that aside from these 268 units, which were impounded since 2012 to 2014, there are also other unclaimed vehicles in the city’s impounding area.

He urged owners to claim their units to avoid them being similarly auctioned in favor of the city government.  (FREEMAN)
