Father stabs son

CEBU, Philippines - It was supposed to be a happy occasion for a family in Barangay Bitoon, Dumanjug but the celebration turned bloody after the father stabbed his son last Wednesday.

Roy Marie Villalobos, 34, was stabbed in the stomach by his father Rogelio, 57, who was celebrating silver wedding anniversary with his wife.

According to Police Officer 1 Carlito Zulueta of Dumanjug Police Station, members of the Villalobos family were eating and drinking Wednesday night when the father and son, who were both already drunk, figured in an argument.

 At the height of their verbal tussle, Roy allegedly told his father “hutda na og inom ang beer,” which irked more the latter.

Out of anger, Rogelio took a knife and stabbed his son in the stomach.

Roy was brought to Barili District Hospital by the family but the attending physician referred him to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for further treatment.

Zulueta said Roy’s wife went to the police station yesterday and told them that her husband, who is now recuperating at the hospital, does not intend to file a case against his father.

Man shoots mother

Meanwhile, a 23 year-old man was indicted before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office for allegedly trying to shoot his mother with a gun.

Prosecutor Raul Cristoria held Genmar Morales, a resident of Barangay Kalunasan, for trial for attempted parricide.

Cristoria recommended P120,000 bail against Morales.

Morales’ mother, Marina, in her sworn statement, said the incident happened on September 16 this year, at around 11:30 a.m., upon arriving home from buying vegetables.

She alleged that she saw her son, Genmar, cooking, and asked him what it was. However, her son allegedly got angry instead and uttered “invective words” at her. He even allegedly threatened to kill her.

While fixing their roof, her son allegedly entered the room, shouted at her and aimed an improvised gun at her.

Marina said she was able to escape and went straight to the barangay hall to report the incident. Together with two barangay tanods and a police officer, she went back to the house and had her son arrested.  (FREEMAN)
