School teacher who ‘hit’ students out on bail

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The public school teacher in Minglanilla town who was accused of hitting her students with a doorknob in the head is out of jail temporarily after the court granted her bail.

Regional Trial Court Acting Executive Judge Glenda Go signed the release order of Rossan Sellote, 31, yesterday, after Sellote posted a bail of P80,000.

Sellote is facing charges for child abuse.

The Minglanilla Police arrested Sellote last Thursday night for allegedly hitting her students with a doorknob, which caused one of them to faint.

PO2 Marry Christie Nacario of the Women’s and Children’s Protection Desk said a nine-year-old boy who was allegedly hit three times fainted.

The victim is a grade four student of the Calajoan Elementary School.

Investigation revealed that the minor had a fight with a classmate around 4 p.m. on Thursday and Sellote tried to pacify them. Later, the teacher allegedly took an unused doorknob from her table and hit them with it.

Nacario said Sellote had denied the allegations and said she only pushed them away from each other to end the fight.— (FREEMAN)
