For 44 SAF Commandos CCPO chief warns vs illegal solicitations
CEBU, Philippines - Police Regional Office-7 deputy director for operations and Cebu City Police Office officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Conrad Capa warned unauthorized individuals who solicit financial support for the families of the 44 slain Special Action Force commandos that he will go after them if they initiate the scam in Central Visayas.
Capa reminded the public to be cautious against fake solicitations asking for cash donations via text message, social media and in person for the bereaved families of the 44 PNP-SAF members.
The National Capital Region Police Office earlier clarified that it does not solicit financial help for the families of the 44 slain PNP SAF members and for the survivors of the Mamasapano encounter.
But Capa said they have not received any report on the presence in Central Visayas of unscrupulous individuals who take advantage of the death of the 44 SAF commandos.
“Subukan nilang mag-solicit dito. Not in Cebu, not in Region-7 because I will go after them,” he said.
Capa further suggested that the reports on fake solicitations should be investigated and those who are behind the scam should be punished.
“There are some evil people taking advantage of the death of SAF 44. They are so evil they have to make money out of these heroes. How can people be so evil? Kamatayan nila, pagkakakitaan nila. Tragic na nga, gawin pa nilang hanapbuhay. Sobra na man sila eh,” he said.
Capa spent the first four years of his career as a SAF member. He entered the organization in 1985, two years after its inception, and left in 1989.
Capa then encouraged those who are interested to extend their help by donating their financial aid to legitimate foundations such as the SAF Foundation or through the PNP Special Assistance Fund Account.
“They can also forward it to me. If they want to help, I can refer them. Let me know,” he added. (FREEMAN)
