Nigerians in maritime school sent back home

CEBU, Philippines - A group of Nigerian students, who have been attending school in Cebu City, were asked by their own government to return to their country last Saturday after they reportedly violated regulations in a maritime institution.

The nine students were told to stop schooling at the University of Cebu–Maritime Education and Training Center located in Mambaling right next to the South Road Properties.

UC legal consultant Hans Abella said the nine, who were among 300 scholars of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), were “recalled” back to Nigeria for violations of school regulations.

“Ang mga kalapasan sa mga estudyante naglakip sa wala pagsunod sa curfew, uban usab niini ang dili pag-uli sa dorm ug mga incident sa pagsukol-sukol sa mga school authorities, ug uban pa,” he said.

“We previously handed over the reports (of violations) committed by the students to the Nigerian government,” he added.

NIMASA assisted the nine students in traveling back to their country and would also be the one to extend disciplinary actions against them.

“Gusto nila nga matarong atong mga estudyante. For NIMASA, the scholarship provided to them (students) is more of a privilege than a right.” Abella said. (FREEMAN)
