Man killed in road accident

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A motorcycle driver died after he was hit by a Sports Utility Vehicle in Barangay Pasol, Alcoy town past 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Russel Alipin, 37, a technician of Baclayon, Boljoon, was on board his motorcycle when he was initially sideswiped by a cargo van driven by Prospero Blanco Cantillep, 41, of Lapu-Lapu City.

When Alipin fell on the road, an SUV, driven by Edgar Apolinar, subsequently hit him.

Police Officer 2 Leo Gesim, desk officer at the Alcoy Police Station, said Apolinar reportedly did not notice the victim and tried to maneuver so he won’t hit Alipin but it was already too late.

The victim died of severe body injuries and was not taken to the hospital anymore.

Both drivers were taken into police custody after the accident for possible filing of a case but Gesim said that the family of the victim and the drivers reportedly reached an agreement. (FREEMAN)
