‘Drunk’ Briton found dead in creek
CEBU, Philippines – A British national was found dead in Mahiga Creek in Barangay Apas, Cebu City early yesterday morning.
Jonathan Paul Harris was reportedly drunk and fell into the creek with his head first, causing his death.
A deaf mute boy who was urinating in the area found the foreigner’s body sprawling on the creek at 5 a.m., said Police Officer 1 Michael Angelo Singson of the Homicide Section.
The boy told the residents about the body and they called for police and medical assistance.
The Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation rushed to the area and assessed Harris to be dead already.
Harris sustained a cut to his forehead and his skull was fractured which might have caused his death, said Singson.
Singson said residents in the place saw Harris the night before he died walking around the area apparently too drunk.
The foreigner might have joined the party at a nearby mall in Barangay Banilad where he got drunk, said Singson.
“Hubog daw nang tawhana samtang naglakaw, wala na’y klaro panghimout. Nangihi sa dool ang amang, buntag na sad sila nakahibawo nga ang tawo mao ‘to ang nakit-an niya gabii,” he said.
The police did not find foul play in Harris’ death.
Homicide Section is planning to coordinate with the British Embassy on the incident. Harris’ address in United Kingdom and here in Cebu City was not yet established. (FREEMAN)
