DSWD willing to debrief pupils

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Social Welfare and Development-7 is willing to conduct a debriefing to the pupils who witnessed the fistfight that led to the death of a nine-year-old boy in a public school in Bantayan town last Thursday.

Leah Quintana, DSWD-7 information officer, said they are just waiting for a request from the Department of Education.

“Since mga bata ang involved, mas maayo man nga i-apil sad sila kay naa gyud ni effect sa ilaha ilabi na dili maayo ang nahitabo,” Quintana said.

The DepEd Provincial Division wants the pupils to undergo debriefing, especially the 10-year-old boy who engaged in a fistfight with victim Jiel Chris Desamparado.

Dr. Arden Monisit, DepEd Provincial Division Superintendent said he does not want the students to be traumatized with what happened.

Desamparado died after he was hit by his 10-year-old classmate several times in the upper extremities inside Vito Elementary School in Barangay Kangkaibe.

The DepEd has released an initial assessment that the adviser of the two pupils will not be held liable as the incident happened during a lunch break.

A five-man team composed of an administrative officer, legal counsel, consultants and leaders of DepEd was tasked to come up with a report on the incident this week. (FREEMAN)
