Neighbor stabs woman dead

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A woman died after being stabbed several times by her neighbor following a heated argument past 8 a.m. Monday in Barangay Cogon-Pardo, Cebu City.

Maria Catherine Gabilan, 47, did not make it alive to the Cebu City Medical Center after she was stabbed repeatedly by Gimepearl Bernal, 34.

Homicide investigator Police Officer 1 John Erick Samosa said that the suspect and the victim had a heated argument early morning yesterday. The argument led to a fight and the suspect was able to grab a pair of scissors and a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim several times.

The victim sustained multiple stab wounds in her arms and body but the fatal one was the wound to her chest, Samosa said.

The suspect said she was cooking food early in the morning while Gabilan was washing her dishes. She said that she asked Gabilan not to spill water on her charcoal stove but according to her the victim got mad.

“Giyabo man na niya ang akong gilung-ag, sir, unya gilabay niya og uling nga nagbaga pa akong anak, ako lang po’ng gidepensahan, sir,” she said.

He added that both the victims and her husband attacked her inside her rented room and the victim’s husband tried to drag her out, an allegation that The FREEMAN cannot verify.

She said that before she could be dragged outside by the husband she grabbed a knife and scissors but the victim’s husband tried to take it from her.

She said she fell to the ground and lashed out with the knife and scissors at anyone who came near her.

The victim was brought to CCMC but was declared dead on arrival while the suspect was brought to Cebu City Police Office and will face charges for homicide.  (FREEMAN)
