CH releases P2T aid for seniors
CEBU, Philippines - At least 34, 366 senior citizens from all 80 barangays of Cebu City yesterday received the third tranche of financial assistance from the city government.
The city government has already distributed a total of P5,000 out of the P12,000 promised by Mayor Michael Rama. Half of the total assistance promised by Rama to senior citizens, however, will be given in kind. The first tranche was given in February while the second installment was in May.
The Cebu City Office of the Senior Citizens Affair has registered a total of 57,000 beneficiaries. City Administrator Lucelle Mercado said those who were not able to claim the P2,000 assistance yesterday will have 15 working days to claim it before it will be forfeited in favor of the government.
Mercado said those who want to claim at the City Hall have to go to the city treasurer’s office and present a valid identification card.
“Maka-claim pa sila until 15 days,” she said.
City treasurer Diwa Cuevas said the city government has allocated P115 million in yesterday’s distribution of cash assistance. The distribution was done at the barangay hall starting in the morning until noon.
Meanwhile, Cuevas said that the barangay officials will receive their allowance for the second quarter tomorrow. The distribution will be done at the social hall of the Cebu City Hall.
She said that the 80 barangay captains will receive P15, 000 each; P9,000 for each of the 560 barangay councilmen; and P6,000 for barangay secretaries and treasurers.
The city government is giving P5,000 monthly allowance to each barangay captain, P3,000 for councilmen, and P2,000 for barangay secretaries and treasurers. (FREEMAN)
