Go murder case: Fate of Dumpit known tomorrow

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The fate of controversial policeman SPO1 Adonis Dumpit will be known tomorrow when the promulgation of his murder case for allegedly shooting dead a 17-year-old suspected robber ten years ago in Villagonzalo 2, Barangay Tejero, is set to take place in Regional Trial Court Branch 6.

Dumpit is currently detained at the Cebu City Jail after he was accused of killing Ronron Go last December 14, 2004.

Go’s mother, Janeth Badana, said that she and her family are “anxiously waiting” for Tuesday’s verdict, which will be handed down by Judge Ester Veloso.

Badana said that she and her family are ready to accept the verdict of the court, adding that if they don’t get justice they will “leave it all to God.”

“Ang akong gipangayo sa Ginoo nga hatagan ko niya og strength to accept whatever decision of the court,” Badana said.

“Dili ko ganahan mo-preempt sa desisyon pero kung unsa’y ma-desisyonan sa korte kinahanglan natong dawaton bisan sakit,” Badana added.

Dumpit, during a recent testimony before the court, claimed that what he was doing was self-defense.

Dumpit said he and two other policemen, PO3s Ruel Hortellano and Porferio Gabuya, went on a follow-up operation after a woman whose daughter was robbed inside a jeepney came to them to ask for help.

Go, who was Dumpit’s neighbor in Tejero, was then identified by the victim as one of the robbers. Dumpit, together with Hortellano and Gabuya, chanced upon Go in Villagonzalo 2 that afternoon of December 14.

According to witnesses, Go tried to run away from Dumpit but the latter shot him from behind.

Based on the autopsy report of the National Bureau of Investigation, Go was hit twice in the back and killed instantly.

Dumpit said after hitting Go, he personally brought him to the hospital.  — /BRP (FREEMAN)
