CIDG-7 staff negative of drugs

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 were subjected yesterday to a surprise drug test.

At least 20 personnel submitted themselves to the test while nine others missed it. CIDG-7 chief Ritchie Posadas said those who were absent will be made to explain except those who were attending court hearings.

According to Posadas, all 20 personnel who submitted urine sample were tested negative for illegal drugs.

Posadas said the drug test was conducted to clear suspicions that there are CIDG operatives who are into illegal drugs. During the drug test, assistant city prosecutor Mary Ann Castro dropped by at the CIDG-7 office and volunteered herself to undergo the test.

Castro, who prosecutes drug cases, said she wants to show to the people that she is clean.

“I did not know there was a drug test. I volunteered just to show I am clear too, since I am mostly handling drug cases” Castro said.

Castro tested negative of illegal drugs.

At least 150 policemen from Talamban, Punta, and Waterfront Police Stations were also tested negative of drugs during a surprise drug test Thursday last week.

The test was conducted by the Police Regional Office-7 deputy director for operations, Senior Superintendent Conrad Capa. Cebu City Police Office director Noli Romana and City Intelligence Branch chief Romeo Santander also submitted themselves to the test. (FREEMAN)
