Rama wants ID of cops linked to drugs
CEBU, Philippines - Amid insinuations that policemen might be protecting drug dealers, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is instructing Cebu City Police Office to identify those cops involved in drug cases.
Few days ago, during a raid in Barangays Pasil and Ermita, a notebook was found bearing a word “pulis” written beside an amount.
“Kahibalo naman mo nako nga kon naa sa drug list mao nay ginganlan nako og wala gyud na siya’y mercy nga approach. Pangitaon na, they have to look for them,” Rama said.
He said in other places, cops are jailed if proven guilty. “How much more here in Cebu City?” he added.
“Dili na siya something new. What else is new? Look for those (policemen involved in cases like this), bring them in the open,” Rama told CCPO.
Based on reports, six persons, including two women, were arrested in that operation where around P2 million worth of suspected illegal drugs were confiscated.
Senior Superintendent Conrado Capa, Police Regional Office-7 deputy regional director for operations said there will be regular random drug test on all police stations.
“They will expect us (to do the drug test, but) at least they would not know what station in the city or province and when it (testing) would be,” he said.
Just last month, Talamban Police Station chief Senior Inspector Bienvenido Miral disclosed that few of his policemen are protectors of drugs.
However, according to him, he does not have enough evidence to prove their involvement in this illegal activity.
“Sa wa pa ko na-assign diri daan na na siya nadungog nako, naa lagi kunoy tig-anhaan, mao lagi nadunggan rapud nako. Duna koy ngan pero way confirmation ba, mao bitaw to ako giingon nga mo-come out in the open kay mabuhatan nato og affidavit para mahimoan nato og complete action,” Miral said earlier. —/JMD (FREEMAN)
