Fugitive rape suspect nabbed after 10 years

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Investigation and Detection Management Branch of the Cebu City Police Office arrested in Liloan town last Saturday a man who had been hiding for almost 10 years.

Rolly Tuico Genolago, arrested by IDMB personnel, has been wanted for a case of rape and child abuse.

In an interview, Insp. Aileen Recla, IDMB chief, said that they received a tip that Genolago is seen somewhere in Liloan.

Recla said that in 2004, the suspect was accused of molesting his 12-year-old neighbor in Barangay Adlaon in Cebu City.

After the incident, Genolago reportedly fled to Mindanao hoping to get away with the crime.

Upon verification IDMB operatives positively spotted the suspect in Liloan town that led to his arrest.

He was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Ester Veloso of the Regional Trial Court Branch 6 in Cebu City.

In an interview, Genolago denied the accusations filed against him, saying he did not commit the crime and that he was just wrongly accused. He said he did not know that he has a standing warrant.

Recla said that Genolago’s arrest is an accomplishment since he was accused for the crime of rape which is a non-bailable offense.

Since the early part of the year, CCPO has been active in its campaign against wanted persons in the city.

The Police Community Relations distributed campaign posters, leaflets and tarpaulins of wanted persons for public dissemination.

Few persons were arrested due to the community’s support of reporting to the police wanted persons spotted in the community.  (FREEMAN)
