Tuburan’s Sinulog contingent asks for aid from prov’l gov’t

CEBU, Philippines - Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante personally met with Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III yesterday to ask for financial assistance from the Provincial Government to support their town’s contingent for the upcoming Sinulog sa Kabataan Lalawigan competition.

In an interview with the media, Diamante said they estimate their cost to be more than P4 million.

 â€œNangayo mi kang Vice Gov ug kay Gov. Wala pay amount pero ang resolution gi pass na ug mi-commit na pod sila nga mohatag. (We have asked Vice Gov and Gov for assistance. There is no amount yet but the resolution has been passed and they have also committed to give),” said Democrito.

He added that they have been using their personal money for the contingent’s practices and the assistance coming from the provincial capitol will be a big help.

The Tuburan contingent placed second last year in the Sinulog sa Kabataan-Lalawigan division. The town’s contingent this year will be composed of students from the Tuburan National High School, La Paz National High School, Uling National High School and Sabang National High School.

“Mag-ampo lang ta og maningkamot lang pod ang atong kabataan ug ang mga miyembro sa contingents nga maningkamot pod nga unta modaog sila,” Democrito said.

For his part, Davide assured to extend financial assistance for the town’s contingent. He did not indicate though the exact amount that will be given by the provincial government.

“I pledge nga motabang ta pero wa pa ko kahibaw kon pila gyo’y amount sa assistance that will be given to Tuburan,” he said.

Davide added that Tuburan has also requested an ambulance for their contingent during the competition.

Meanwhile, Davide directed Cebu Provincial Tourism Officer Grace Paulino to arrange with the towns sending in contingents for the Sinulog competition for their transportation.

“Suroy-suroy buses are ready, are all on stand-by and directed Ms. Paulino to arrange (with) the towns that have Suroy-Suroy buses for the contingents coming to Cebu,” he added. — (FREEMAN)
