CEBU, Philippines - The food packs and tents stocked at the Capitol that are intended for the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda in northern Cebu are set to be distributed this week.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) head Evelyn Senajon said the distribution was halted because of the holidays. She assured that the relief packs are intact and will be distributed to support the food-for-work program of the local government units in northern Cebu. They will be delivered on January 8.

"Next week na gyud ma-distribute ang uban. Dugang ni nga commodities until supply lasts (We will distribute next week. These will serve as augmentation until supplies last)," she added.

Following the damage caused by Yolanda last November 8, 2013, towns in northern Cebu initiated the food-for-work program wherein residents affected by the typhoon would help clear debris in exchange for food packs.

Meanwhile, Senajon said the remaining 38 tents donated by China will be distributed to 16 provincial and district hospitals across the province once Capitol will find a delivery vehicle.

"Preparation ni nila for any calamity, pwede magamit. For example nasunogan, puwede nila ma-transfer ilang pasyente (They can use these during calamities like in an event of a fire. Victims can occupy the tents)," she said. — (FREEMAN)
