Power restored in Ormoc, Iloilo

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) made significant headway in its power transmission restoration efforts in the typhoon-stricken Visayas after it energized two vital lines in Leyte and Iloilo on Friday.

In a statement, NGCP spokesperson Elmer Cruz said that at around 8 p.m. lights were turned on at the Ormoc City Hall in Leyte two weeks after typhoon Yolanda badly hit the area, renewing the Leytenos’ hopes for a bright Christmas as they start to rebuild their lives after catastrophe.

This came after NGCP restored power in its Ormoc-Simangan 69-kiloVolt (kV) line at 5:18 p.m. the same day.

The Ormoc-Simangan line connects to the sub-station of  Leyte Electric Cooperative V (LEYECO V), which distributes power to Ormoc City.

NGCP’s transformer at its Ormoc sub-station is also back to being operational and ready to serve LEYECO V.

Meanwhile in Iloilo, NGCP likewise successfully energized its Dingle-Natividad 69-kV line at 6:51 p.m. also on Friday.

The line is connected to the Iloilo Electric Cooperative III, which distributes power to portions of Iloilo including Anilao, Banate, Barotac Viejo, and Ajuy.  (FREEMAN)
