Capitol, Mandaue to co-manage CICC?
CEBU, Philippines - The Province of Cebu and the Mandaue City government, both members of the Cebu International Convention Center Management Board (CICCMB), are considering the option of managing the facility on their own.
Both Cebu Governor Hilario Davide, III and Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes said they are considering the option of managing the CICC as its current facility-manager, Philippine Exhibits and Themeparks Corporation (PETCO), has already ended its contract with the CICCMB last June 30.
Davide and Cortes explained that they are considering forming a committee, with representatives from Mandaue City and the provincial government, to look over and manage the CICC.
Davide said it is an option if they decide not to renew the contract of PETCO.
“We will decide within the week if ipadayon ba or dili but there were already concerns raised regarding the revenue generated so far sa income sa CICC vis-a-vis the expenses,†Davide said.
The CICCMB has been meeting regularly on the fate of the facility having earlier discovered that the Capitol was spending more in CICC’s utility bills than its earnings.
In fact, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale was earlier toying the idea of selling the CICC. Another plan was to renovate the facility for the upcoming international events like the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in 2015.
Davide said that if they will decide to discontinue with PETCO, the provincial government will co-manage the CICC with Mandaue city government. He explained that they will observe the set-up within few months and will later decide if there is a need to get another company to manage it.
Cortes believes it would be advantageous for both LGUs to manage the CICC.
Cortes explained that they can already save on the money being paid to PETCO, which is P200,000 a month.
PETCO is still looking over the CICC until the end of the month based on the provision of their contract. — (FREEMAN)
