Sanciangko, Katipunan may be opened to 2-way traffic

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) plans to open Sanciangko St. and a portion of Katipunan St. to two-way traffic in the hope of solving traffic congestion in the nearby areas.

CITOM Executive Officer Rafael Christopher Yap said there is an ongoing study being conducted by the Traffic Engineering Section that would include the suggestion to open Panganiban St., the road in front of the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), two-way traffic again.

Sanciangko St., the road that connects D. Jakosalem St. and Taboan Public Market, and a portion of Panganiban St. from corner Sanciangko to Natalio Bacalso Ave. were two-way roads before but were converted to one-way.Traffic officials believe that once Sanciangko St. is opened to two-way traffic again, it can help decongest the traffic flow along Natalio Bacalso Ave. for vehicles going to the north.

In the 80s, Sanciangko St.  was the route of tartanillas or horse-drawn carriage to the Taboan Public Market and to corner D. Jakosalem St. while vehicles coming from Natalio Bacalso Ave. for Colon St. were allowed to make a right turn to Panganiban St. when it was still two-way.

There is also a plan to open a portion of Katipunan St. from corner V. Rama Ave. to corner Tres de Abril St.  to two-way traffic.

However, Yap could not yet give a definite date as to the implementation of the planned opening of the said roads.

At present, the only exit for vehicles coming from Labangon area is the Tres de Abril St. to Natalio Bacalso Ave.  (FREEMAN)
