CEBU, Philippines - Three graduates of University of San Carlos (USC) topped the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Licensure Examinations conducted by the Professional Regulatory Commission.

Mikyll Hum Dalimot-Narvios, who graduated summa cum laude, placed second with an average of 95.43 percent.

Lawyer Christopher Malaya, chairman of the Accountancy Department of USC, said that Narvios was a consistent dean’s lister.

Narvios, who hails from Carcar City, reportedly was out of the country as of yesterday, according to Malaya.

Other Carolinians who made it to the top ten are Wendell Kho-Ang, who placed fourth with a 93.71 percent, and Arianne Cañon-Fernando, who bagged the 10th spot with a 92.29 percent.

Ang graduated magna cum laude while Arianne Cañon-Fernando graduated summa cum laude.

Malaya said that for three consecutive years, USC has produced three topnotchers in the CPA exams, emphasizing that this batch is the highest so far with Narvios landing in the second spot.

“I’m happy because we are consistent for not only producing board topnotchers but as well as maintaining the 80 to 100 percent for first takers in the overall school performance,” Malaya told The FREEMAN.

Topping this year’s exam is Richard Baguio Saavedra from Ateneo de Davao University, who garnered 96 percent while Tom Braian Aguilar of the University of Baguio placed third with 94 percent.

Interestingly, Saavedra also bagged sixth place in the December 2007 Nursing Licensure Examination.

Jaymar Pelin Dumagsa of Western Leyte College-Ormoc got the fifth spot with 93.57 percent while Russel Aaron Ailes of Ateneo De Naga University and Hazel Valerie Sy of De La Salle University (DLSU)-Manila tied at the sixth place with 93.29 percent.

Occupying seventh to ninth places are Jon Vincent Ong of DLSU-Manila (93.14 percent), Glen Dareen Santos of Xavier University (92.71 percent) and Kathleen Samonte of DLSU-Manila (92.43 percent) while Jay Ronald Lluvido of Holy Name University-Tagbilaran tied with Fernando in the 10th spot.

Out of the 5,665 who took the examination, PRC announced that only 1,553 passed. /LPM (FREEMAN)
