CEBU, Philippines - A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Carmen town, Cebu, last Thursday morning by an unidentified man who promised to take her to the Department of Social Welfare and Development office in Danao City after she and her brothers left their house.

The girl together with her three brothers aged 11, seven and two earlier left their house after the eldest brother was scolded by their father last Wednesday afternoon.

Their father was reportedly angry at the 11-year-old for selling his carpentry materials.

SPO3 Renerio Masucol, Carmen Police Station investigator, said four of them went to the house of Florencio Boyno, a family friend who lived in Barangay Malbago, before finally deciding to go home that same night.

While they were walking along the reclamation area in Carmen around midnight heading home, a man riding a motorcycle drove up to them and offered to take them to the DSWD office in Danao City.

But after they agreed, the man only took the girl and left the boys behind, promising them he would return. Instead of taking her to the DSWD office the man allegedly took her to a secluded area and raped her.

The girl managed to walk about two to three kilometers back to the reclamation area after the man left her, her brothers were still there and the four of them went to the police station to report the incident.

It was the police who contacted their father that his children were at the police station. He had also gone out searching after he became worried none of his children came home Wednesday night.

The mother of the children, their father’s former live-in partner, left their family a few months ago for another man.

The girl only described the man who took her as small and with short hair.

“Maka-identify man kuno siya kung makakita siya ug balik,” Masucol said in a phone interview.

In another incident, a man was killed after he was stabbed by his father-in-law, early in the morning last Friday in Sitio Cogon, Barangay Calamba, Cebu City.

Juvy Monreal, 35, jobless, was stabbed by his father-in-law Catalino Daquil, 63. Both are residents of the mentioned place.

Orchid Monreal, the elder sister of the victim, said that she saw the suspect inside their house holding a sharp weapon before stabbing the victim while he was asleep, hitting him in the right portion of the torso.

PO1 Reoful Adalim of the Cebu City Police Homicide Section, said their investigation revealed that before the incident happened, Juvy was asked by his mother-in-law to sell a pair of earrings worth P5,000 but Juvy just remitted P1,160 leading to an argument between them.

After he was stabbed Juvy was rushed to Cebu City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Catalino is still at large after he fled after stabbing the victim.  (FREEMAN)
