CEBU, Philippines - Fisherfolks  and drivers associations in Talisay City support the candidacy for mayor of Cebu First District Rep. Eduardo Gullas.

Seven different fisherfolks associations of the city’s coastal barangays and 16 driver associations have pledged their full support for Gullas and the Alayon slate in the coming May 13 midterm elections.

The Biasong Fishermen Association, Pundok sa Gagmayng Mananagat sa Sawsawan of San Roque, Cansojong Fisherman Association, Poocanong Mananagat sa Talisay, Dumlog Fishermen Association, Tanke Fishermen Association and Sitio Asan Kitang Association signed a manifesto expressing their support for Gullas and his party.

The different federation of tricycle drivers also support Gullas’ bid for mayor.

Gullas, who authored the bill that led to Talisay’s conversion from a town to a city in December 2010, ran and won for mayor in 2011.

The groups are hoping that the congressman, once elected as Talisay City mayor, would be able to lead an effective, honest and transparent city administration and efficiently deliver basic services.

In a separate interview, Gullas vowed to campaign harder in order to win the mayoralty race now that he and his entire slate have the support of the drivers and fisherfolks.

Gullas thanked the different fisherfolks and drivers associations for their endorsement saying that it will boost his candidacy as well as of the whole Alayon slate in Talisay.

Last month, Gullas reopened the old tricycle terminal near the old public market and he promised tricycle drivers that the terminal will stay open even if he does not become mayor. –(FREEMAN)
