Cousins on summer vacation drown in Moalboal

CEBU, Philippines - Two cousins from Mindanao who came to Cebu to spend summer vacation with their relatives drowned Thursday afternoon in Barangay Basiot, Moalboal.

Carlos Dominic Perjes, 18, of Agan Homes, Isukan, Sultan Kudarat and his cousin, Jenry Perjes, 21, a fresh college graduate, of Sto.Ñino, Surallah, South Cotabato, were found floating more than three hours after their relatives noticed their disappearance.

PO2 John Robert Sacan, of the Moalboal Police Station, said that victims together with their families and relatives went swimming at the  around 3 p.m.

They came to Moalboal for spend their summer with their relatives.

Sacan said the group was enjoying at that time and failed to notice that both victims were already missing until around 5 p.m.

Police investigation revealed that Carlos Dominic could have experienced foot cramps.

Jenry tried to rescue him but they both drowned even if they knew how to swim.

The police and fisher folks searched the area until they were both found floating around 8:30p.m.

Meanwhile, a body of a man was found floating in the waters off Barangay Calero, Liloan Thursday afternoon by a team from the Philippine Coast Guard detachment who was conducting seaborne patrol.

The man was wearing a white T-shirt, blue-colored maong pants, about 35 to 40 years old and about 5’5” tall.

The body was taken to the Maturan Funeral Homes in Barangay Catarman for autopsy.

The Coast Guard coordinated with the Liloan police for possible identification of the victim. - /MBG (FREEMAN)
