CEBU, Philippines - A 15-year-old boy was killed while his passenger was injured after their motorcycle hit an Isuzu Elf cargo truck last Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. on the national road in Sitio Panocdocan, Barangay Cawayan, Dalaguete town.

Stephen Dicdican, a second year high school student of the Cawayan National High School and resident of Barangay Lanao, was killed on the spot.

His passenger Marvin Buen, 18, was rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for treatment.

The investigation of the team of PO3 Leonilo Vanguardia revealed that Dicdican was driving a Honda XRM motorcycle with plate number K5273 to Barangay Ban-higan from Barangay Lanao when the accident happened.

The motorcycle intruded into the opposite lane while trying to overtake a tricycle it was tailing and failed to notice the approaching cargo truck driven by Rogelio Pimentil of Barangay Sto. Niño, Malabuyoc town.

The cargo truck, with license plate numbers YHE 937, was heading to the Argao public market to deliver buckets of fish when the motorcycle hit it.

The police said Dicdican failed to return to his lane as he would hit the tricycle.

The victims were thrown off the motorcycle and suffered injuries in different parts of their bodies.  However, Dicdican did not survive.

His body was taken to the St. William Funeral Homes for autopsy.

Pimentil surrendered to the Argao police and was later turned over to the Dalaguete police.

Both vehicles involved were impounded to the said station for proper disposition as both parties are planning to amicably settle the matter.  — (FREEMAN)
