GSO repair bay to rise at SRP

Jessica Ann R. Pareja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Government broke ground last week for the P60 million construction of the General Services Office Repair Bay and Central Warehouse at the South Road Properties (SRP).

Engr. Rene Plarisan of the GSO’s Equipment Repair and Maintenance Management said the projects will be completed in 180 days.

The Repair Bay shall be GSO’s permanent motor pool and repair area. It will be constructed in the 10,000 square meters portion of the city hall block at the SRP.

The warehouse will take up 4,500 meters of space in the same block.

The city hall block is the one near the present Department of Public Works and Highways.

Plarisan said the GSO needs the permanent area for their motor pool operations since they are only using temporary office, also within the SRP.

He also said that the central warehouse shall answer to their need for a bigger storage since at present they only use container vans to store spare parts, which he said is not a conducive storage place.

The central warehouse shall house all supplies of the city government not limited to the spare parts. Plarisan said, once it is established, the city government no longer needs to lease warehouses.

“Nagsige ra man ta’g abang karon. Maayo gyud nga naa na ta’y atuang kaugalingon nga warehouse, (We are just renting. It would be much better to have our own warehouse.)” he said.

The P60-million repair bay and warehouse projects were budgeted in 2011 yet. He said the bidding was only completed recently since they changed venues at least thrice.

The city hall block is also where the offices of other departments currently renting spaces like the city engineering department will be constructed in the future. (FREEMAN)
