City’s P222M annual investment plan approved

Jessica Ann R. Pareja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Development Council (CDC) approved yesterday the 2013 Annual Investment Plan comprising different barangay and sector projects worth P222 million.

The CDC approved 20 items in the 2013 AIP including lump sum appropriations for projects in the different barangays.

Only 30 barangays, however, were able to include their projects in the AIP while the rest failed to submit their proposals.

Apas Councilman Allan Majait said their barangay was late in submitting the proposal for a P10-million road concreting project. He said it might be included in the 2014 AIP.

The CDC said that the AIP was only for those barangays that were able to submit their proposal complete with the Program of Works and Estimates and other requirements.

Some of the barangay projects that made it to the AIP were the barangay electrification program for mountain barangays (P6 million), barangay water system and facilities (P6 million), drainage system, construction of sports complex and construction of soil protection.

City Planning and Development Coordinator Engr. Alipio Bacalso said the barangays who failed to submit their proposals might still have a chance if they can accomplish it before the CDC meets next on March.

The CDC meeting yesterday was supposedly for the February 1 assembly.

Bacalso said the AIP may be amended if necessary.

“Anyway, they have a financial assistance from the city government,” Bacalso said.

Each barangay was given about P6-million aid by the city government which they can use to implement infrastructure and other social development projects.

Since it is an aid, the barangay is responsible for its implementation and such need not to be included in the city’s AIP. – (FREEMAN)
