CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wants the garbage truck for barangay Guadalupe be turned over the latest next week.
The mayor was already supposed to turn over the truck to Guadalupe last Wednesday but he postponed it after learning that what was prepared was not a brand new unit.
To be fair with other barangays, he said he wants a brand new garbage truck for Guadalupe that the barangay will be able to enjoy for a longer period.
He denied reports that Guadalupe officials refused to accept the garbage truck because it is not brand new.
Rama said there was no turn over yet when he ordered the office of councilor Eduardo Rama to put it on hold first.
“I told them it should be brand new and I want the paper works to be completed within the week,†the mayor said.
Guadalupe Captain Michael Gacasan also denied that they rejected the garbage truck.
He said the barangay is still waiting and constantly following it up with the city government.
“Mudawat ra man mi bisan karaan pa na or bag-o. Ang importante, makatabang sa among koleksyon sa basura, (We will accept it whether it is old or new. What’s important is that it could help in our garbage collection.)†Gacasan said.
A city councilor informed The FREEMAN that Guadalupe officials rejected the truck, loaded with garbage, which was delivered yesterday by the Department of Public Services (DPS).
DPS Head Engr. Dionisio Gualiza said, in a text message, that they lent the used garbage truck to Guadalupe but it was not the truck to be turned over to the barangay.
Gualiza said they are still processing the purchase request for the brand new truck for Guadalupe. He said they sent the DPS truck to augment the barangay’s operation for the meantime. (FREEMAN)
