MCWD urged: Fix road affected by project

Rene U. Borromeo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council asked the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) to coordinate with the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) for the immediate restoration of the roads affected by the water district’s pipe installation projects.

Cebu City Councilor Edgardo Labella observed that MCWD abandoned most of the roads destroyed by them after pipe installation.

“After laying the pipes, the MCWD just refilled the excavations by merely putting back the excavated soil into the trenches that were dug for the pipes. The MCWD did not bother to restore the asphalt paving of the road that was dug up in the course of the said pipe-laying operation,” Labella said.

Labella cited the portion of Villa del Rio going to Villa Leyson in Barangay Bacayan where the councilor resides.

“The recent heavy rains have reduced the excavated roadway into veritable mud pits through which passage by persons and vehicles has been rendered very difficult, if not impossible,” Labella added.

Several motorists are complaining because the unrepaired excavation affects the flow of traffic.

MCWD corporate manager for communications Charmaine Rodriguez said that they are still waiting for the pipe-laying project to be completed in Bacayan before the road will be restored.

“Maghimo pa man gud mi og hydro-testing kon wala bay leak sa piping mao nga dili usa namo dayon aspaltohon ang karsada kay madoble man ang gasto,” she said. – (FREEMAN)
