City Hall wants sidewalk across TESDA compound
CEBU, Philippines - Believing that pedestrians walking along Salinas Drive are at risk because of the absence of a sidewalk, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has instructed his staff to coordinate with the Technical Education Skills Development (TESDA) for a possible construction of a sidewalk.
Rama also instructed his staff to verify the ownership of the lot across TESDA where houses are already encroaching the supposed sidewalk. The mayor said pedestrians are forced to occupy a portion of the road because of the obstruction at the sidewalk.
Aside from the risks it posed to the lives of the pedestrian, the situation is also causing traffic problem in Salinas Drive and Archbishop Reyes Avenue.
“Kuyaw kaayo na diha’ng lugara kay ang tawo anha man molakaw sa agianan sa mga sakyanan. Swerte gani nga naa ang crossing paingon sa Waterfront Hotel ug sa IT park kay mapugos ang mga motorista sa pagpahinay (that area is very dangerous for pedestrians because they have to occupy part of the road. It’s good that there is an intersection going to Waterfront Hotel and IT Park because the motorists are forced to slow down),†he said.
The mayor is hoping that the TESDA officials will agree to move their perimeter fence to allow sidewalk construction. TESDA occupies a province-owned lot.– /FPL (FREEMAN)
