Rep. Pablo assists victims of typhoon Pablo
CEBU, Philippines - While Deputy House Speaker Pablo Garcia is busy attending to the damage of typhoon Pablo in the second district of the Province of Cebu, he is among those who signed House Resolution 2938 allotting P1.4 million for the victims.
Garcia responded to the call of House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. for the people to help the victims of typhoon especially in the devastated areas.
The House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 2938 allotting P1.4 million for the victims, of which the 285 members will be donating P5,000 each from their monthly salary.
The donations will be given to the heavily devastated areas of Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental wherein the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council reported hundreds of dead, injured and missing persons.
Belmonte, principal author of the measure, said the calamity left a trail of incalculable damage to homes, properties, infrastructure and agriculture and a lot of lives were lost due to typhoon Pablo.
Aside from Garcia, other members who also signed the resolution are Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II, Minority Leader Danilo Suarez, and Representatives Thelma Almario (Davao Oriental), Tomas Apacible (Batangas), Sergio Apostol (Leyte), Jose Aquino II (Agusan del Norte), Roilo Golez (Parañaque City), Dakila Carlo Cua (Quirino), Edcel Lagman (Albay), Hermilando Mandanas (Batangas), Lani Mercado-Revilla (Cavite), Florencio Noel (An Waray Party-list), and Karlo Nograles (Davao City).
Yesterday, Garcia joined his daughter, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, in distributing relief goods and cash assistance to affected families in southern Cebu.
They also checked the damages to infrastructure of the towns of Samboan, Santander and Boljoon.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) reported four casualties, four injured, 250 houses destroyed and 1,070 houses damaged in southern towns including those in Sibonga, Oslob, Alegria, Malabuyoc and Ginatilan. (FREEMAN)
