PB, C-Cimpel partner anew

Kristine B. Quintas - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Board has renewed the accreditation of the Cebu-Citizens Involvement and Maturation in People’s Empowerment and Liberation Foundation Inc. (C-CIMPEL), a non-government organization (NGO) of the Province of Cebu.

“The renewal will give our organization the robust authority to actively participate as partners in local governance and development,” said C-CIMPEL Executive Director Marilou Chiongbian.

The chairman of the committee on accreditation, Joven Mondigo Jr., recommended the renewal of C-CIMPEL’s accreditation during the session yesterday.

During the proceedings, Magpale asked Chiongbian if the automated election made her job easier.

Chiongbian replied that her job is much easier this time as compared to the previous automated election because they had to learn many new things then as an election watchdog.

The group has been active in monitoring elections in the precinct level with the intentions to prevent vote-buying and selling, electioneering, illegal voting, the intervention of public officials and employees in the electoral process, the unlawful entry of police, military and barangay officials in polling areas and other violations.

Also, the organization seeks to deter incidents of tampering, damaging or stealing of election paraphernalia and devices, interfering with computer counting devices and information results and electoral sabotage. — (FREEMAN)
