City Council commends UV Chorale

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council commended the University of the Visayas Chorale for garnering gold awards during the recent Rimini International Choral Competition in Italy.

In a resolution, the city council congratulated UV Chorale for a job well done and for being the pride of the Cebuanos.

UV Chorale topped in two categories and won second in one category.

The competition has six categories but the group only participated in the Mixed Voice, Folk or Gospel/Spiritual Choirs and Sacred Music.

The group won a gold trophy in the Mixed Voice Category with a score of 95.20 and another gold trophy in the Folk and Gospel Choirs Category with a score of 88.6. They were second in the Sacred Music Category with a score of 92.8.

They also bagged a special prize in the Grand Prix competition for getting the highest scores in different categories.

UV Chorale swept awards after a two-hour performance of classical-religious music selections.

The Rimini International Choral Competition was held in the ancient Roman City of Rimini in Italy last October 4 to October 7 participated in by 37 choirs from across the world.

“The UV Chorale has uplifted the hearts and spirits of their audiences and has brought honor and acclaim not only to the school but also to the entire Filipino community. Their combined talents are worthy of recognition,” the council said.

The UV Chorale is composed of some of the most talented College students of the UV.

The group was founded by UV Executive Vice President Dr. Jose R. Gullas and his wife Nena Gullas, who is the group’s Manager.

The group has since then been trained to perfection by choirmaster Anna Tabita Abelada-Piquero. (FREEMAN)
