Road accident kills one
CEBU, Philippines - A criminology graduate was killed after the motorcycle he was riding on hit an Isuzu Canter truck parked along the road early morning yesterday in Barangay Pitalo, San Fernando.
Niño Caballero, 25, of Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay North Poblacion, suffered severe injuries in different parts of his body and was rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Caballero, a graduate of one of the universities in Cebu City, was supposed to take the Criminology board exam on October 27.
PO1 Miguel Bernabe, traffic investigator, said Caballero was on board his Yamaha Mio motorcycle (4755 XX) on his way to Naga City to attend the annual fiesta celebration when the accident happened.
Caballero failed to see the Isuzu Canter truck (FDM 153), loaded with coconuts, parked along the road. One of truck’s tire had exploded. It was driven by Richard Cañete, 27, of Barangay Poblacion, Barili.
Bernabe said Caballero, who was not wearing a helmet at that time, hit the rear portion of the truck, causing him severe injuries.
Cañete is now detained at the San Fernando stockade pending the filing of a case for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. — (FREEMAN)
