Pro-life group to come up with candidate list

CEBU, Philippines - Human Life International Philippines, a pro-life and pro-human organization, will soon be releasing the list of candidates that they will be supporting in the coming May 2013 elections.

This is according to Dr. Rene Bullecer, country director of HLI, amidst the start of the filing of certificate of candidacy nationwide yesterday.

Bullecer said their support will be based on the role of the candidates in the fight against the controversial Reproductive Health Bill.

The list will be discussed and finalized during the National “Philippines for Life” Leaders’ congress on November 16 and 17 in Cebu.

Bullecer revealed that they will be supporting Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama. They will also be closely monitoring politicians who are making a comeback, other reelectionists as well as the new candidates.

He explained that they will be supporting the candidates who have been anti-RH bill from the start and not those who just changed their stand.

He said that the voting public should also take this into account and consider the track record of every candidate.

Bullecer expressed their concern on the increasing number of pro-RH bill in congress and the senate.

“We cannot allow them to control both chambers,” he said.

In an earlier statement, Bullecer expressed how they were saddened by Gov. Garcia’s decision to back out from the senate race.

But yesterday, he said they are grateful that Garcia will be running for congress and that some other anti-RH bill senatorial candidates are leading in surveys.

He said that they are still cautious because majority of Liberal Party who are still in office are pro-RH bill.

Bullecer also said they are saddened by the report that Garcia’s camp will field former congresswoman Nerissa Soon-Ruiz in the sixth district as she is a known supporter of the RH bill.

On the other hand, Dilaab Foundation Inc., with their partner Couples for Christ reminded the public to put the right people into office.

The religious groups wish to guide people in the selection process by giving them basis to scrutinize their candidates better through the Lifestyle, Action, Supporters, Election conduct, and Reputation (LASER) test.

Dilaab and CFC conducted a Discernment Recollection for vocation in politics last Sunday at the Sacred Heart Center.

The theme was “Whoever is not against us is for us: (Mark 9:40) A day of reflection in preparation for Elections 2013.”  (FREEMAN)
