Security guard mauled, stabbed, robbed
CEBU, Philippines - A security guard was mauled, stabbed, and then robbed by four men who initially offered him drinks along Maxilom Avenue Ext., Barangay Tejero last Sunday night.
Police identified the victim as Bernard Beneloac, 31, single and a resident of Barangay Guadalupe. He works as a security guard under Archangel Security Agency and is detailed at Cokaliong Shipping Lines, Inc. at Pier 1.
Police investigation revealed that Beneloac was walking along the road on his way home at 6:30 pm when he passed by a group of four men having a drinking session.
One of the men called Beneloac and offered him a glass of liquor. Afraid that the strangers might hurt him if he refused, the guard accepted the drink.
At this juncture, one of the men asked him for an additional bottle of the said drinks.
The four then demanded money from Beneloac, to which the latter refused. As a result, the four punched and then stabbed him on the left side of his stomach.
The assailants then took his wallet from his pocket which contained P2,500 cash before fleeing.
The victim managed to board a passenger jeepney which brought him home. Through the assistance of his father, Deogracias Beneloac, he was taken to the Chong Hua Hospital for treatment.
The victim is now recuperating at the hospital while police are conducting a follow-up investigation to identify the assailants.
SPO1 Ruth Violango of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, who leads the investigation, said Beneloac can recognize the face of one of the assailants.
Violango said Beneloac disclosed that he once confronted the said suspect who was attempting to steal iron bars from the vessel that he was guarding then. (FREEMAN)
