PCAC asked to study police substation in Labangon

- Rene U. Borromeo - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - The Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC) has been tasked to evaluate and submit its recommendation on the request to install a police sub-station in Barangay Labangon which is seen to help minimize the drug problem and other criminalities in the area.

The Barangay Council of Labangon under Barangay Captain Victor Buendia said the police sub-station will be best installed along A. Lopez Street near the public gym.

When the Barangay Councils of Labangon and Calamba held a joint session last May 4, 2012, the installation of a police substation at A. Lopez Street was one of the issues discussed.

Calamba Barangay Captain Victor Quijano also expressed the same concern because of the reported source of illegal drugs and presence of bad elements in that place.

Anti-drug crusader Alden Abi-abi was shot and killed by some of the drug personalities in Barangay Calamba in the early 2000 because of his serious campaign against the illegal drug trade in that area.

Cebu City Councilor Margarita “Margot” Osmeña brought up the matter during the City Council’s session last week, but it was agreed that the matter be referred first to the PCAC for evaluation.

Barangay Labangon is under the territorial jurisdiction of Police Station 10 in Barangay Punta Princesa, which is about three kilometers away.

The officials of Barangays Calamba and Labangon believe that if a police substation would be established at A. Lopez Street it will greatly help minimize the drug problem in the place.  (FREEMAN)
