CEBU, Philippines - The usual traffic congestion along Natalio Bacalso Avenue, particularly along the corner of Tres de Abril Street, may soon be minimized once the City government will widen the A. Lopez Street in Barangay Calamba.
The Cebu City Council, through the motion of Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias, asked the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) to study the recommendation of Labangon barangay officials to widen A. Lopez Street.
Labangon Barangay officials, headed by Captain Victor Buendia, believed that if A. Lopez Street will be widened by the city, it will be a good alternative route for motorists from Labangon who want to proceed to V. Rama Avenue and other uptown areas.
At present, there are only a few motorists who wish to pass by A. Lopez Street because aside from the narrow road, there are several trisikads or pedal-operated tricycles that are operating on that road from Katipunan Street.Although going via Tres de Abril Street to Natalio Bacalso Avenue then to V. Rama Avenue may be quite far, most vehicles coming from Labangon opts to pass through the route because A. Lopez Street is very congested.
Cabarrubias said the request for road widening will surely benefit the people living in the area and give them better access to and from their residences.
In his committee report, Cabarrubias, who heads the committee on infrastructure, said the city engineer should make an ocular inspection and validate the necessity and feasibility of the project. (FREEMAN)
