- Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - A man and his two months old granddaughter died while three other members of the family were injured in a road accident involving a motorcycle and a cargo truck in Sitio Iyakan, Brgy Sorsogon, Malabuyoc late Sunday afternoon.

The fatalities were identified as Ramon Buagas, 55, and his granddaughter Kate Justine Buagas.

Nila Denuyo Buagas, 55; Alice Buagas, 28; and three-year-old Caira Jane Buagas also suffered injuries when the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a cargo truck.

The victims were on their way home from a family outing to celebrate the feast of John the Baptist when the accident happened. According to Malabuyoc police chief Amadeo Pepito, the victims were negotiating an uphill blind curve and did not notice the coming cargo truck driven by Romeo Lebosada, 48, resident of Barangay Sorsogon.

Because of the impact of the collision, the victims were thrown off the motorcycle. Ramon who drove the motorcycle hit his head on the pavement as well as his granddaughter Kate.

They were both declared dead on arrival at the M.J. Cuenco Memorial Hospital in Malabuyoc.

Nila, Alice, and Caira were referred to Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City where they are currently recuperating.

Charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries were filed yesterday at the Municipal Trial Court in Malabuyoc against Lebosada. (FREEMAN)
