CEBU, Philippines - A 53-year-old Japanese national is now facing two criminal complaints after a medium pack, suspected to contain shabu, and several drug paraphernalias were seized from his possession after he was arrested for maltreating his pregnant 21-year-old live-in partner in Barangay Guadalupe last Friday.
Nakahigashi Kiyoshi, who resides at Kimtons Apartment, of the said barangay, is a native of Wakayamta City, Nishiyama Prefecture, Japan, was arrested by elements of the Guadalupe Police Station and the Cebu City Intelligence Branch at around 5 p.m.
Si Chief Insp. Enrique Belciña, head of the Guadalupe Police Station, told The FREEMAN that what they found was unexpected.
He said that the victim, who was six-months pregnant, sought help from their station at 2 p.m. after she was allegedly mauled by the suspect whom she met a year ago.
Belciña immediately instructed their Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) to accompany the victim to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Pink Room for examination.
The victim reportedly sustained bruises on her face and stomach.
A joint operation between the Guadalupe Police Station and the Cebu City Intelligence Branch, where the victim’s aunt sought help, was immediately hatched against the Kiyoshi.
“Wala siya pag-abot namo. Mao nga amo gyud siya (Kiyoshi) gihulat, (He wasn’t home when we arrived which was why we really waited for him.)” Belciña said.
Upon noticing Kiyoshi’s arrival, Belciña said they waited for a few minutes and then stormed inside his room where they caught him in the act of sniffing drugs.
The police recovered a medium pack of white powder suspected to be shabu and several drug paraphernalia. Kiyoshi denied maltreating his live-in partner and refused to comment on his supposed drug addiction.
Belciña said Kiyoshi will face charges for violating provisions of Republic Act 9262 also known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004 and RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Act of 2002.
Kiyoshi is currently detained at the Cebu City Police Office stockade while his live-in partner is now living with her aunt in Barangay Mambaling. (FREEMAN)
