Guard shoots man dead in Mandaue

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A security guard is now a subject of a police manhunt operation for killing a construction worker in Mandaue City Sunday morning.

Rogelio Bintad, security guard assigned at a construction site in Barangay Tipolo, shot Ryan Naingue in the head using his service firearm after an argument.

Naingue, 20, a native of Tuburan town, reportedly had an argument with Bintad when the latter barred him from entering the construction site he was working with because he was allegedly under the influence of liquor.

After the argument, Naingue left the construction site but he was followed Bintad. The guard shot the victim in the head using his Caliber .38 revolver.

The victim was rushed to the Mandaue City District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Bintad escaped after the incident.

The police are now coordinating the suspect’s brother who is a policeman assigned at the traffic division to negotiate for his brother’s surrender.

It was the second incident involving a security guard in a span of two days.

Last Saturday, a security guard in Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City, also shot a certain Egardo Villamor in the leg while having a drinking session. The victim was confined at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City while the suspect remains at large.

Meanwhile, a barangay tanod in Barangay Guinacot, Danao City was arrested last Saturday for indiscriminately firing his gun.

Beinvinido Dagatan is currently detained at the Danao City Police Station while charges are being prepared for filing today. The police however failed to recover the firearm used by the suspect. — (FREEMAN)
