CH project moved to avoid confusion

CEBU, Philippines - Implementation of the “City Hall at your Doorsteps” did not push through at the sports complex of Barangay Cogon-Pardo yesterday after Mayor Michael Rama saw tarpaulins of the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) at the venue.

Rama said the tarpaulins reportedly promote the political plans of some probable candidates of (BOPK) and holding the activity there might create the impression that the project is an initiative of BOPK.

The project was implemented somewhere else in the barangay.

Cogon-Pardo Barangay Captain Eugenio Gabuya who used to be with the opposition is now an ally of Cebu City South District Rep. Tomas Osmeña, the head of BOPK.

He said the tarpaulins were already there before City Hall scheduled the event.

Rama came up with the “City Hall at your Doorsteps” project in response to the clamour of Cebu City residents to implement community outreach programs through the Frontline Cluster departments in the barangays.

The departments and offices involved in the project include the City Health Department, City Civil Registrar, City Attorney, City Assessor, City Treasurer’s Office, City Agriculture Department, Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries, Department of Manpower Development and Placement.

Personnel of the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) and the Department of Public Services (DPS) will also act on the problems of busted electric bulbs and clogged-up drainage systems.

Among the services offered at the project are medical and dental check-up with free medicines, random blood sugar and blood typing, seedling distribution, anti-rabies vaccination and feeding of children.

The Office of the Civil Registrar also offered free registration of births, marriage and death while the other departments will also conduct cleaning of garbage, seminar on drugs and rehabilitation and conduct pre-screening for job fair employment referrals. – (FREEMAN)
